WITH reference to the final match between the Eagles and Willowra, I was impressed how the elders of Willowra watched over the people of their community.
They talked with the young ones and kept an eye on them.
Throughout the season Willowra Football team were undefeated and although they didn’t win the Grand Final a few weeks back they held their heads up high.
Losing the game was a really big blow for them, but they showed the true spirit of sportsmanship.
Those young footballers brought families and supporters together.
There has been some issues in the Willowra community in the past, but this time they weren’t struggling to come together.
The football team didn’t win the Grand Final but Willowra has won back its community.
I’d like to thank Willowra Night Patrol, too.
They were working until late Sunday morning, being actively out there and keeping an eye on the young ones.
In my 17 years of working in Julalikari Night Patrol promoting safe communities I haven’t seen any community, as Willowra did that weekend, display such leadership and pride at all levels.
