I WRITE regarding the local MLA Gerry McCarthy’s column, particularly “New electorate officer welcomed” (TDT 9/10/09).
Mr McCarthy’s column was mainly an introduction of his new Barkly Electorate Officer.
It was mentioned though in that article, that the local member and his Electorate Officer share an ethos.
I refer to that the way it was written:
“We share in an ethos of ‘no such thing as a problem, only a solution’” and “one can only do their best” and “we may not be able to resolve all issues for all people yet we will certainly ‘have a go!’”
Such an electorate office ethos is fine but since Mr McCarthy’s responsibilities are a lot broader; a grand ethos as this needs to be put into action.
As NT Minister for Corrections and Transport, Mr. McCarthy is in the key position of Minister for Transport to find a solution to the problem of proper airline services to Tennant Creek.
It would be good if Mr. McCarthy could do his best and have a go.
This is an issue that affects all people of the Barkly especially Tennant Creek the future of which the NT Government mentions in glowing terms with no real follow through as seen in the past first with the Barkly Blueprint, then Regional Development and now more recent discussions happening on the same lines, none of which would make sense without a proper and regular airline service that people of Tennant Creek need for medical, business and many other reasons.
