IS there a problem with the Barkly Shire considering a possible purchase of a residence in Tennant Creek for staff housing?
No, not really, as long as a fair, transparent and accountable procedure is implemented.
The Barkly Shire Council has established that they require four residences for staff housing.
However, the Shire has been approached with an offer to purchase a residential property and it is being discussed in the confidential sessions of the Shire’s monthly meetings.
The Barkly Shire is also exploring the possible construction of a further three residences.
Why are other possible vendors wishing to make an offer to purchase to the Shire not aware that this is even an avenue that they can explore?
Furthermore, what is the criteria or specifications of the quality of housing that the Barkly Shire is seeking, eg single dwelling, duplex, units?
The information that has been revealed from the confidential sessions and documented in the minutes is appreciated but this is no compensation to those many unwary potential vendors and is a disservice to the integrity and choices that councillors are faced with in their considerations to resolve a staff housing issue.
Where is the ‘Acquisition of Staff Housing Procedure and Policy’ that ensures a fair, transparent and accountable process?
