ANIMAL Liberation activists claim they have rescued rabbits facing inhumane slaughter at a meat farming facility in south-eastern NSW.
Activists entered the facility on Friday night and took five out of 100 rabbits living in cages, saying the animals were going to be decapitated by circular saw.
Animal Liberation spokeswoman Emma Hurst said the RSPCA was investigating, but facility workers told them it was typical industry practice.
"The rabbits were not in very good condition and we were obviously concerned about the method of slaughter," Ms Hurst said. "Killing an animal fully conscious by decapitation is barbaric."
