FANS shouted with joy when Jamie Yates in Car 44 took out first place in the Foster Group/Tennant Creek Memorial Club 60 Lap Street Stock Challenge.
Jamie, sponsored by Tennant Creek Tyre Service/Compass Haulage and Talice Security, raised the chequered flag to well deserved cheers and applause.
Second place went to Shane Cramp (Car 46) and Trin Hemmings (Car 14) from TC Auto Pro came third.
The final 30-lap race was heart pounding with many people peeking through their fingers at the two Harden Up Racing team mates fighting it out.
Every heat saw drivers racing hard and fast.
The track record at 19.9 sec was hammered by Hemmings to 19.184 sec.
Everyone was stepping it up, power to the ground was the goal.
Personal bests went to Col Fry with 19.571 sec and Shane with 19.297 sec.
Sadly Richie and Tony were casualties in the heats. Jamie and Shane took two heat wins each, with one each to Col and Rod from Alice.
Equal points between Jamie and Shane for the first 30 Laps saw a flip of the coin go Shane’s way for pole position.
Sixty laps of brains, breathing and braun was needed.
Shane led and held on until the 20th lap when Jamie got by but, on the 29th lap, a momentary dust blind for Jamie saw Shane take it back and finish the first 30.
Col, Allen and Ian were additional causalities.
A new track record was set by Jamie at 19.065 sec in lap 24.
A single file restart for the last 30 laps saw Shane leading until lap 40 and they caught lap traffic, three cars wide.
This was by no means the end of it, nose-to-tail racing, more heart stopping lap traffic moves, and a deteriorating track saw Jamie fight for every corner and dominate for the win.
Remaining final results were Rod 4th, Anthony 5th, Scott R 6th and Scott C 7th.
Phil Noble came first in the Bombers and second was James Jamison.
It was Phil’s sixth win for the season against locals and visitors.
The winner in the Senior Karts was Liam Wilson.
Jayden Giezendanner won the Junior Karts and Jack Yates came second and Mickalya Giezendanner third.
Jack and Jayden thought they were in planes because both soared in air!
After the scare the little champions restarted their engines and raced all night.
TC Speedway President Col Fry thanked the event’s sponsors, Fosters Group and the Tennant Creek Memorial Club, for their support and the drivers for a great night’s entertainment.
Our thanks to the many supportive volunteers throughout the night.
