Women’s netball in jeopardy

01 May, 2009 10:40 AM
AFTER a small but productive AGM meeting on Monday evening, Netball Association committee members and players were shocked to discover only two teams had been entered for the 2009 women’s competition, placing the competition in jeopardy unless at least another three teams can be formed.

As one of a select few exclusively women’s sport competitions running in town, it is essential the competition is kept alive.

In response to this situation, the start date will now be at 7pm on Monday 11 May at Purkiss Reserve and the format has changed slightly.

Monday will be a “Have a Go and Sign Up Night” where anyone interested in playing can come down and the committee will help find a team for you.

If you are new to town this is a great opportunity to come along, meet people and have fun.

Don’t worry if you have not played netball before – our competition features women of all ages and abilities.

The focus is to enjoy the great game of netball.

Netball will then hopefully continue every Monday through to the school holiday break, with games to be played at 7pm, and recommence following the holidays.

If you are even remotely interested in playing netball this season come down and have a go!
