THE local ambos and firies saved the night at Tennant Creek Speedway last Saturday.
With an action packed night of racing and several callouts for the ambulance and fire volunteers, they pulled every last resource to allow Speedway to continue racing.
Without them it would have been a no-go zone on the track for any competitor.
Now onto the racing side of things.
Jack Yates started the night out again but this time he decided to trade the go-kart in for his buggy.
All the kids were in envy watching him zoom around the track.
Mr Commentator also gave him a big rap on his first heat, sounded like he was racing the Grand Prix.
Next up was Jayden Geizendanner racing with the 50cc quads.
Jayden, with more power and might, zoomed to take out all heats and the final. Michael Jones kept taking off at the start line with Ben Gannon and Trent Wilson trying to chase him down.
Trent would end up rounding up the others to just pip them at the winning post. This was even with Michael trying to take a short cut and nearly launching himself off the bike over the wind row coming back onto the track.
The junior bikes were a thrill a minute as usual.
Mickayla was out there battling it out with Brandon and Alexander.
She was shooting for the stars and there was no taking the win off her all night. Mickayla took out the finals followed by Brandon and Alexander.
For one class that doesn’t show a lot of crashes and mishaps, the go-karts gave us a heart stopping smash up.
Brian Cox and Liam Wilson decided that the strategy to winning was to crash into each other and then take off racing again, leaving the others behind.
Well that’s how it worked out.
Liam propelled his go-kart up and over Brian and then got thrown out like a rag doll.
Everyone was in stunned horror but as they say Tennant Creek boys are tough as nuts.
Both of these boys ended up getting back in their go-karts and were the only two to finish the race.
The final was actually a close race between the four carts and final placings were Eddie Wilson taking chequered flag followed by Brian, Dennis and Liam.
Mt Isa was the big drawcard for the night with the formulas.
John Lawson came out of a long break from racing and travelled all the way from Mt Isa to compete against the locals.
The first heat got the heart pumping when coming round the south end of the track it looked like John was about to clip Clarissa and then on another lap looked like he was going to clip the wall near the pits.
Jamie Yates also seemed to lose a bit of control in one of the heats and had to pull up short just off the wall.
As they say, near-misses are always a good thing, as long as your not slamming into something.
A couple of heats seemed to help John get a feel for the track as he took the final out followed by Clarissa and Jamie.
Once again the streetstock racing was close calls all night.
Jamie Fry was testing out new manoeuvres but ended up all over the track.
Phil Noble nearly took out one heat in his new car but much to his wife’s dismay he lost it on the last lap.
Trin Hemmings, Peter Gannon and Colin Fry were fighting it out in the final for first place.
By three quarters, it seemed Trin was going to be the definite winner but with one wrong turn of the wheel Peter Gannon slipped through to take out first place followed by Colin. Trin and the rest of the field that managed to complete the race.
A huge thank you has to go to Peter Burns of Compass Haulage.
He put prize money up for the Street Stock final.
Last but not least, farewell to some valued Speedway members – the Koivumaki Family”
You will be missed for your dedication, laughter and fun times.
