SHANE Hayes and Nathan Morrison of Tennant Creek High School have been living in Melbourne during term two of the school year.
They have been attending St Michael’s Grammar School and playing football for St Kilda City Football Club as a part of a scholarship program organised by St Kilda City.
The idea of the program is to give young men an insight into life in a big city.
As a part of the program the two students also got to spend a day at the Melbourne Football Club with Northern Territory stars Aaron Davey, Austin Wonaeamirri, Matthew Whelan and Liam Jurrah.
They gained a great insight in to what it takes to make it from the Territory to the AFL, learning vital information about diet and nutrition, training, game preparation, fitness and the application it takes to make it to the top.
Davey also provided great tickets for Shane and Nathan to attend Liam Jurrah’s debut game against Essendon.
It was a day the fellas will remember for a long time and has helped them to understand that it is possible to reach their goals if they put in the hard work.
Shane and Nathan have been starring for the St Kilda City U/16 team, who are sitting on top of the ladder.
They have been very popular at the club, with Shane kicking 50 goals in 10 matches including three bags of nine goals.
Nathan has been playing on the wing, in the centre and up forward and has been finding plenty of the ball and showing off his silky skills.
Both players have won brand new mobile phones for best on-ground performances.
The two young men have been attending St Michael’s Grammar School, one of Melbourne’s most respected schools.
The school has been very impressed with the two Tennant students and they have become extremely popular with both staff and students.
Although daunting at first, especially with the thought of leaving friends and family behind for 10 weeks at a time, Shane and Nathan are now loving life in the city.
Shane and Nathan will be returning to the Northern Territory for the school holidays and will return to Melbourne for term three.
