Speedway juniors out in full force

29 May, 2009 10:18 AM
THE junior speed freaks of Tennant Creek came out in forcerecently to race their little hearts out at the local speedway.

Seven children ranging from three to 11 years of age braved the cold and put on a good show.

First up was the new class of Junior Go-karts.

Trent Wilson displayed his donut skills in the pit and was just getting used to the feel of his go-kart on dirt for the first time.

Jayden Geizendanner tried his hardest to finish every race but due to chain spit offs and other mechanical problems by the final he thought nothing would come of it.

Come the final, Mickayla Geizendanner and Jack Yates were ready to take the honours as in previous heats.

Unbeknownst to them, Jayden had other ideas.

With a lot of hard work in the pits, Jayden was able show that he was a force to be reckoned with.

Tussling for first place throughout the final race, he came across the finishing post first with hands in the air and took the chequered flag.

Go the Aussie power!

Next up were the ever-popular 50cc Quads.

Young Luke Gannon and Mitchell Russell raced for the first time ever alongside of old-timer Michael Jones.

Michael was ready to show the boys how to do it and how fast to go.

Taking first place in first heat, Michael was on to a sure thing with taking the final out.

Thanks to the other dads in the pit, the ensuing mechanical problems were fixed and he was able to make the final.

Mitchell and Michael bolted off the line as soon as the green flag dropped and little Luke Gannon with all his might took off after them.

Michael took an early lead but Mitchell got him halfway through the race.

Michael tried to get more out of the motorbike but looks like dad has to do a bit of servicing on his breaks.

Mitchell took first place followed by Michael and Luke.

Great to see the new guys race so well and special mention to Luke Gannon who raced cleanly and finished every race. Such a big effort for a little boy.

Numbers were down in the Senior Go-karts but that didn’t stop Liam Wilson getting out there and racing the dust clouds.

Jerry Shadforth again made his presence felt in the Formula 500s.

With good, clean racing all night it was a battle between him and Rissa.

Jamie Yates tried to keep up but the power behind the others was unbeatable.

Jerry took out the final followed by Rissa and Jamie. Quickest lap time was 15.9 seconds by Rissa.

Phil Noble, fresh from racing in Alice Springs, thought he would put the new guys to the test.

Allen Spence and Darrin Whatley were ready and waiting to give him a run though.

Allen Spence did well most of the night but just didn’t hold it together and allowed Phil to take out the final followed by Allen and Darrin.

Quickest lap time goes to Phil Noble at 20.2 secs.

Street stocks came out and it was Shane Cramp versus Colin Fry.

With close racing all night Shane was able to hold his line and with the pressure on Colin a few spinouts cost him the lead.

Shane took chequered flag with the Ford fans cheering.

Quickest time goes to Shane Cramp with a 19.961 sec.

So get your woolies out of the cupboard and come to speedway tomorrow night (Saturday 30 May) and support the guys and gals out there racing their little hearts out.

Juniors first race commences 6.30pm so come and support the future of racing early.

Reminder to all drivers pit gates will be closed at 6.30pm every night.
