New beast proves kitten at speedway

09 Oct, 2009 10:45 AM
THE buzz around town that a new racing machine would be at speedway kept dedicated fans eager when they turned out to check out the new beast recently.

Amid the dust and wind, the red mean machine roared out onto the track with sounds of appreciation.

Jamie Yates had impressed the best of them with his new Formula 500.

The test now was to see if it went as well as it sounded.

As the first heats started in the Formula 500s, it was woman against man/new against old/ worn-in.

Rissa was determined that she was going to christen Jamie’s new car and that she did.

With a burst of speed in the corner Rissa’s formula covered Jamie in dirt.

No longer did it look so new.

Rissa had the advantage of knowing her formula and was able to hold Jamie out throughout the heats and in the final.

I am sure though Jamie will get that sweet machine a-humming as he drives it more.

The little boys were out again this weekend.

Ben Gannon showed he is the more experienced one on the track.

At every start he roared out like a bull at a gate.

Mitchell Russell and Luke Gannon tried their hardest but Ben showed he was to be the one on the night taking out first place, followed by Mitchell and then little Lukie.

Senior Karts started out with two competitors: Tim Welsh and Perry Gunner.

Both lads kept taking it in turns on losing it at the corner.

One would get going and the other would spin out.

Regretfully both of them had mechanical failure and were unable to finish the final. Ritchie Fry also had mechanical problems and did not end up finishing. James Jaimeson took out the final.

This week’s meet there was a total of two bombers. Shaun Jones decided to throw his hat in the ring and have a go.

Luck was not with him and after a spin out in the first heat and then his car had mechanical problems and was unable to race for the rest of the evening.

James Jaimeson took out the final.

Street Stocks were also low on numbers but the dedicated drivers still showed up and raced their hearts out.

Shane Cramp, Colin Fry and Scott Clarke put the pedal to the metal and raced like their was no tomorrow.

Shane was able to hold out the other guys and take out the final followed by Colin and then Scott.

Thank you once again to all the volunteers that work throughout the week and on the night. Also thank you to the sponsors who support speedway.

See you all trackside this weekend for more action.
