WOMEN’S netball came to a close last Monday night and the final game was one of the closest encounters of the season, providing all the thrills and spills that this event has become known for.
Missfits took an early lead in the first quarter with sharp shooting from Katherine Faulkner and the Sarah and Sue Adams mother/daughter combination proving deadly.
However, tactical changes from Sporties Redbacks at the quarter, bought Francis Storey back into the circle and her shooting proved unstoppable.
The Missfits defence worked tirelessly but it was Sporties who edged back to grab the lead at half time.
The game continued to see-saw through the third and final quarter but Missfits managed to regain their composure thanks to a determined midcourt effort led by Billy Okeefe.
Missfits scraped home, the victors, with a 2-goal win.
After the game a small presentation followed and two awards were presented for Best and Fairest in the final – Missfits star shooter Katherine Faulkner and the versatile Sporties junior Breanna Harwood.
Thanks to all who helped make the competition a success, after a wobbly start, and to Tammy and the other girls on the committee who did a great job of bringing the women’s season together.
Mixed Season Team nominations are due as soon as possible with the team competition due to start directly after the school holidays.
These forms can be found at Sport and Rec and Barkly Shire Council, or contact any committee members directly for more information.
