THREE Tennant Creek Pistol Club members travelled to Darwin to compete in the Pistol Northern Territory Championships at Palmerston Pistol Club last weekend.
The normally three-day competition was compacted into two very full days of events which saw a distinct drop in scores of all competitors.
The boys from Tenant Creek unfortunately took a ‘bait’ the day before the competition and suffered the aftermath of food poisoning.
They were disappointed with their overall results but still won some reasonable places in the competition.
Sunday afternoon saw a bit of excitement after a heavy morning of Range Officer work by John Bertram on the Service range and Jim Cruise on the Rapid-fire and Standard ranges; when a bushfire started raining ash and heavy smoke across the Standard pistol range.
Eric Brahim competed in five events taking out 3rd in D Grade 25 Yard Service, 5th in D Grade Men’s Air pistol, 5th in D Grade Centre-fire pistol, 6th in Unrestricted Service pistol, and 7th in D Grade Standard pistol.
John Bertram competed in five events taking out 1st in D Grade Centre-fire, 3rd in D Grade Service pistol, 3rd in D Grade Unrestricted Service pistol, 5th in D Grade Standard pistol, and 7th in World Association 1500.
Jim Cruise competed in the five International Sport Shooting Federation events taking out 1st in B Grade Men’s Air pistol, 1st in C Grade Rapid-fire, 3rd in B Grade Centre-fire, 3rd in B Grade Standard pistol, and 3rd in B Grade 50 Metre pistol.
The Tenant Creek Pistol club will be hosting two competitions next year, the first being held over the Australia Day long weekend, and the Pistol Northern Territory Championships over the August long weekend.
