First win off home turf for eightballers

14 Aug, 2009 10:16 AM
TEN Tennant Creek 8-ball players loaded up their wagons, chalked up their cues and headed 1200 kilometres south to compete in Coober Pedy recently.

This year they were hosting the annual Tri-Towns Challenge, which is now in its 17th year.

Tennant has never won this event outside of town.

The weekend began well with Mully winning the knockout singles event on the Friday night.

Ooh-Aah and Wheelie were competing in the doubles event and although did not make the final played well.

Also Mully was our singles rep with a similar story.

Bob Bagnall took on the challenge of the master’s rep and did Tennant proud and won the event.

Simon and Bev took on the mixed comp and came runners up.

Well done to Bev in her first event.

Then came team event which where the winner takes away the money and big trophy.

We narrowly lost to Alice Springs in the first round but beat Coober Pedy in the second.

Alice Springs beat Coober which put us in the final.

After round one, we were 5-1 and never looked back.

We won the event in fine style with all members of the six-man team contributing to the fantastic result.

The Captain (Cupcake) Jerry, Simmo, Mully, Yani, Simon and Peter were very happy campers.

Our first win off home turf was particularly sweet as the Alice Springs team is the current NT champions.
