AFL star coaches Tennant’s budding young footballers

14 Nov, 2008 06:08 AM
BUDDING young AFL stars were recently treated to special coaching clinic by one of the most well known and talented footballers in the country.

Peter “Spida” Everitt (pictured with local kids) dropped in to Tennant Creek courtesy of Austar Sports and Junior AFL organisers, Richard Dodd, Martin Power and Caroline Ashford.

Spida made his debut in the AFL for St Kilda in 1993 and in 2003 began playing for Hawthorn.

He was traded to the Sydney Swans at the end of 2006 and following the club’s 2008 semi-final loss to the Western Bulldogs, he announced his retirement from the AFL, finishing his career with 291 games on the board.

Everitt was renowned as one of the premier tap ruckmen in the AFL competition.

At a whopping 203 centimetres tall, sporting tattoos on his chest and arms topped off with tight knit dreadlock hairstyle, Spida Everitt was a formidable sight at the centre bounce.

Interest was a bit scarce at first but as soon as the word got out that there was a superstar in town and that he was running a free footy clinic the numbers swelled.

Rumour has it that Spida and his crew will soon be hosting a new television show called the “Great Australian Doorstep” so keep an eye out for it on the tube.

You never know, Tennant Creek may well feature in it sometime.
