Woman medivacced after neighbourhood dispute

27 Jan, 2012 09:28 AM
A WOMAN was medivacced to Alice Springs with head injuries following a neighbourhood dispute last weekend.

And a pregnant woman was struck with an iron bar when about five people stormed into her yard last Friday night.

The incident was just one round in an ongoing conflict between neighbours at two Ford Crescent homes.

Windows have been smashed and the front gate of one of the homes has been kicked off its hinges.

Lynette Graham says she is living in fear and is very worried that her two-year-old grandson will be hurt.

“This problem has been brewing for weeks and it just gets worse,” she said.

“We want it to stop but it’s hard to get any help.”

Lynette said police had been called several times.

On one occasion while officers were talking to Lynette at her home a bottle was thrown over the fence and smashed near where the police were standing.

However, they found there was not enough evidence to proceed with any charges over the matter.

“I do wonder if police are taking us seriously,” Lynette said.

“During one call for help, my daughter was told by an officer that they were sick of us calling although on Wednesday afternoon a policeman came around and said we should phone if there was even the slightest problem.”

Lynette said she wanted to feel safe in her own home and not to have to worry every time she stepped outside.

“I’m calling out to anyone and everyone to help me here and I hope my voice is heard,” she said.

Senior Sergeant Shane Shewring said police were aware on the disputes at Ford Crescent.

“On one occasion a female was arrested and charged with aggravated assault,” he said.

“She will appear in court on 31 January.”

Senior Sergeant Shewring said police treat all disputes seriously.

Police media from Darwin did not comment on the gang attack or provide information on the injured woman.

Further, there was no response as to what action police intend to take to quell the continuing fracas.
