Vice Chancellor checks in on Barkly CDU campus

08 May, 2009 09:59 AM
THE Charles Darwin University Vice Chancellor and Deputy Vice Chancellor were in Tennant Creek last week to visit the local campus and community members.

Vice Chancellor, Professor Barney Glover and Deputy Vice Chancellor, Charles Webb were here to see how the Territory’s only university could help to advance education opportunities throughout the Barkly.

Professor Glover said the two received a warm welcome and stimulating discussions on their first visit to the region.

“I was invigorated to meet so many members of the community and to hear of the efforts to empower local people through quality education and resulting job outcomes,” he said.

“The Barkly and Tennant Creek are positioned in an area of enormous opportunity, particularly in the mining, renewable energies, tourism and horticulture sectors,” he said.

“Community leaders, including Elliot McAdam, Pat Brahim and Kate Young shared their visions for local people to lead the future expansion of the township through innovative training that leads to real jobs.

“CDU is committed to helping the community meet its aspirations and I greatly value the opportunity to visit this region and to witness the enthusiasm and commitment many share towards its future.”

Professor Glover said Charles Darwin University is committed to developing careers and prosperity for all Territorians, regardless of their locations.

“I look forward to working in partnership with local organisations and sharing our resources in higher education, vocational education and training, and research capabilities to ensure this happens,” he said.
