TERRITORY Day went off with a bang in Tennant Creek on Wednesday.
A fireworks spectacular lit up the night skies while the sound of frightened, howling dogs provided the soundtrack.
July 1 is the only day Territorians can purchase and set-off fireworks and locals made the most of the opportunity with flickers and flares firing throughout the evening and beyond.
The annual celebration marks self government in the Northern Territory, declared in 1978.
A flag raising and barbeque luncheon was held at Peko Park.
