MELBOURNE'S St Kilda Football Club has selected five boys from Tennant Creek to play in its under 16s and under 17s teams.
Shane Hayes and Natahan Morrison played for the club last term but for Thomas Gillet and Steven Lawton who left last week, it’s a whole new experience.
Tyler Horwood was in Melbourne for two terms last year and travelled back last week with Gillet and Lawton for another season.
Already they’re proving to be stars of the field winning their first game against Mt Waverly by 150 points.
Hayes and Morrison are attending St Michael’s Grammar School while Horwood, Gillet and Lawton attend Christian Brothers’ College in St. Kilda.
Horwood, 16, says they’re all enjoying the experience so far and haven’t had time to miss their family and friends in Tennant Creek.
“We’ve been too busy,” he said.
Speaking on the eve of their departure from Tennant Creek last Saturday, Gillet and Lawton agreed the opportunity to play for a Victorian Club was a good opportunity and they were looking forward to everything the ‘big smoke’ had to offer.
