WHILST the local athletics season doesn’t commence until May, this week around 20 athletes from Tennant Creek Little Athletics Centre started training.
The athletes are getting in top form to compete in the South Australian Little Athletics Individual Championships, which are being held on Adelaide on 24-25 March.
Athletes will start their fund-raising this Saturday.
With a goal to raise $17,500 over the next eight weeks, our popular car rally and quiz night will occur in March and there will be plenty of other fundraising activities over the period as well.
Who knows, you could be supporting a future Olympic athlete.
On May 13 is the start of the Little Athletics season, complemented by the school athletics programs during Term 2, leading to the school carnivals at the end of term. From within both the schools and Little Athletics, a squad will be picked to go to Darwin to compete in the combined NT Championships/School Sport NT event.
From that event there is a further pathway to compete back in Adelaide at the School Sport Australia Nationals.
This season will also introduce Senior Athletics, as we now have athletes who have outgrown Little Athletics.
Senior athletes will also be able to compete in Darwin.
With the mission statement of Little Athletics being “to develop children of all abilities by promoting positive attitudes and a healthy lifestyle through family and community involvement in athletic activities”, we look forward to a ripper of a year.
This is one bus you’ll want to be on, so get involved.
