DRUNK drivers were the target of a police crackdown in Tennant Creek on Tuesday afternoon.
The special operation was declared a success with more than 70 drivers randomly breath tested.
Police set up stations and vehicle checks along Stuart Highway.
One driver returned a positive blood alcohol reading of 0.096 per cent.
More than 10 litres of alcohol was tipped out during the operation.
Tennant Creek Police Superintendent, Megan Rowe, said alcohol-related offending remained the number one issue in the community.
“Wherever possible, extra police officers are rostered to perform special operations on areas of great concern,” she said.
“The results were positive and the apprehensions and arrests are likely to have seen a prevention of a more serious crime and offending.
“Tennant Creek Police will continue to target problem areas, alcohol-related offending and public drunkenness.”
