Police on the beat with bikes

16 Oct, 2009 08:51 AM
PEDAL power proved to be a successful tactic during a recent police operation which targeted liquor related offences and antisocial behaviour.

Additional police were called in to assist with the two-night Operation Phosphorous last Thursday and Friday with some of the officers on bikes.

A/ Sen Sgt Jody Nobbs said police conducted searches of public places, crown land, prescribed areas and restricted premises.

“There were nine arrests for drinking in public places, 18 people were taken into protective custody and 40 litres of liquor was destroyed,” he said.

“Police intend to continue to identify emerging trends and issues and will allocate additional resources to deal with these in a timely manner.”

A/ Sen Sgt Nobbs said during the operation proactive enforcement had proved to be a positive strategy as arrests under protective custody clearly prevented serious crimes occurring later in the evening.
