No shock that Tennant stops for the Cup

06 Nov, 2009 06:25 AM
PUNTERS and socialites turned out to watch Shocking win the 2009 Melbourne Cup on Tuesday.

Ridden by Corey Brown and trained by Mark Kavanagh, Shocking was followed by international contestants Crime Scene and Mourilyan.

In Tennant Creek, high heels, fancy frocks and fascinators were out in force at various venues although the die-hard race followers celebrated in their usual no-nonsense garb.

There were no new local millionaires after the race although two punters at the Tennant Creek Hotel picked the trifecta which paid around $4250.

However - as usual - win, lose or draw, Melbourne Cup day was a highlight of the social calendar with no one complaining about the fun that was had.
