A MAN who crashed into a stop sign then fled the scene left behind a clue for police - his car bumper with the number plate attached.
The road sign on the corner of Ambrose Street and Peko Road was deracinated when the Ford Falcon collided into and over it early yesterday morning.
Officers who came across the accident scene followed an oil slick east along Peko Road then up a dirt track which led to Karguru Camp.
They noticed the abandoned vehicle in bushland near the camp and saw the offender standing nearby.
The 21-year-old learner driver returned a breath analysis reading of .08.
He has been charged with a number of offences including driving under the influence and not stopping after an accident.
