ANYINGINYI Health is leading the charge to raise awareness about foetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) and local licensees have been the first to come on board.
Signs warning against the dangers of drinking during pregnancy are now on display at the Memo and Sporties clubs, Goldfields and Tennant Creek hotels and the Headframe Bottle Shop.
Licensees John Baker, Randall Gould, Mick O’Rourke, Ryan Jenkins and Ian Gabriel have all committed to support the project which is run by Adele Gibson.
“Licensing Inspector Andrew Cross and all the licensees deserve congratulations,” she said.
“We’re looking for all the community support we can get to help with this project because the effects of drinking during pregnancy can be devastating.
“Children can be left with permanent disabilities and can be mildly through to severely affected.”
Adele said Anyinginyi’s project is aimed at both prevention and education of FASD while support is offered to individuals, families and services already coping with FASD.
She invites anyone looking for more information to call her or Leonie at the Anyinginyi Public Health Unit on 89622615.
