Legal poster aims to help

11 Sep, 2009 09:54 AM
A NEW poster will make it easier to find help for legal problems.

Launched in Tennant Creek last Thursday, the poster is specifically for Barkly residents.

It features contact details and services provided by a range of groups including the NT Legal Aid Commission, Central Australian Aboriginal Legal Aid Service, Central Australian Aboriginal Family Legal Unit and Central Australian Women’s Legal Service,

Wendy Vismans from the NT Legal Aid Commission office in Tennant Creek says the poster would be a valuable community tool.

“At times the law and legal system can be complicated and overwhelming for people who don’t know where to turn,” she said

“Many people who have legal problems don’t know what services are available to them or which is the most appropriate.

“These organisations [featured on the poster] know how vital it is for people to have access to help and information that can explain their rights and obligations and provide confidential help in culturally appropriate ways.”

The poster will be displayed by many services and organisations throughout the Barkly region.

Probably only a waste of money, from my past experience with the law and legal matters in Tennant Creek The legal system is a sham and no amount of "advice" would make it any different.
