Killer sentenced to nine years in prison

03 Feb, 2012 10:18 AM
THE man who killed a Tennant Creek local has been sentenced to nine-and-a-half years in prison.

Kumanjayi Walker was bashed and kicked to death in Alice Springs over a year ago following an argument with one of the men with whom he was staying.

Steven Age was found not guilty of murder, but guilty of manslaughter. He had been drinking with Kumanjayi when the two argued.

Age belted Kumanjayi with a metal pole and when he fell, the man kicked him in the stomach, causing him to haemorrhage and die.

Sentencing Age, Justice Jenny Blockland set a non-parole period of five-and-a-half years.
