Health system up for discussion

16 Oct, 2009 08:51 AM
A MEMBER of the local community will attend a forum where the future direction of Australia’s health system will be discussed.

Kevin Diflo will be present at the meeting to be held today in Alice Springs.

Minister for Indigenous Health, Rural and Regional Health and Regional Services Delivery, Warren Snowdon, is hosting the forum which will discuss the challenges of health reform for Australia’s future.

A recently released report by the National Health and Hospitals Reform Commission has found that Australia’s health system has many strengths with health outcomes amongst the best in the world.

However, the report states, it is under growing pressure - especially as the health needs of our population changes - and that it is fragmented with a complex division of funding responsibilities and performance accountabilities.

The findings of the report will be discussed at the forum.
