Grog ban set for footy weekend

12 Jun, 2009 10:35 AM
LIQUOR restrictions have been imposed on Tennant Creek this weekend in preparation for the Barkly’s premier sporting event, the Lightning Carnival.

Licensing Commissioner Richard O’Sullivan said the restrictions had been used in Tennant Creek to ensure events like the carnival were successful and enjoyable to all.

“With a large influx of people from around the region expected to attend the Lightning Carnival, we do need to ensure that anti-social behavior is kept to a minimum and that it does not spoil a great community event,” he said.

The restrictions come in place today and will apply until Sunday.

Bottleshops, clubs and hotels, including the Threeways Roadhouse, will not be allowed to sell cask wine, fortified wines and all alcohol products in glass containers except premium, mid and light strength beers and wine.
