Calls for ideas on how to better regional transport

14 Aug, 2009 10:08 AM
A PLAN to overhaul regional transport aims to improve links between regions and the NT Government is calling on Territorians to contribute ideas.

Minister for Transport and Barkly MLA, Gerry McCarthy, said the Regional Transport Strategy would deliver a reliable transport service to remote and regional areas.

He says it would also foster economic growth by facilitating business opportunities and creating jobs.

“Our government is taking action to deliver practical solutions to unique transport challenges that exist in the Territory,” he said.

“We want know what Territorians believe would improve business and tourism opportunities across the Territory and to create jobs, boost the economy and grow even stronger communities.

“We’re committed to developing a plan for regional transport that encourages regional economic development so all Territorians can continue to share in the prosperity of the Territory which is the envy of other Australian jurisdictions.

“Forging better links between our regions and centres would also deliver better education, health and social outcomes for Territorians living in the regions.”
